I had an epiphany years ago while sourcing fabrics with a client. She turned to me in utter frustration and said, “What on earth are you talking about when you say this blue is more-red and this blue is more-green? All I see is blue.”

I realized then, it’s not choosing colour that’s difficult (after all, we know instinctively what we like and what we don’t like), the confusion lies in recognizing the more subtle presence of undertone, the colour beneath the colour.
